WASM Regional Center is monitoring a significant, widespread heavy rain event expected to begin during the last third of the month. It will be driven by a strong, highly‑moist, and strongly disturbed equatorial wave pushing toward the Arabian Peninsula and the eastern Mediterranean, coinciding with the continued succession of Mediterranean low‑pressure systems.
In detail, flash‑flood conditions will renew over the region, affecting northwest Syria, Lebanon, and northern Iraq toward the end of this week due to an early, semi‑winter low‑pressure system impacting the area.
Weather will stabilize temporarily in the middle of next week, though atmospheric disturbances will persist in parts of Syria, Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, and western Saudi Arabia.
A strong equatorial wave over the Arabian Sea will approach southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula, coinciding with a rapidly strengthening high‑pressure system over Europe. This pattern will drive a cold air mass from northern Europe toward the eastern Mediterranean.
This interaction will produce intense atmospheric activity across the region and lead to the development of a widespread, heavy regional rain event affecting large areas of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the Levant, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt.
The rain event will begin during the last third of the month and intensify progressively with time. More details will be issued as monitoring continues on the equatorial wave and its trajectory over the Arabian Sea.
