WASM Regional Center | Heat Waves Extend to the Arctic

WASM- WASM Regional Center is continuously monitoring strong and rare heat waves affecting a wide range of the European continent over the coming weeks and driven from the Sahara region due to unusual atmospheric circulation. These heat waves will extend towards the Arctic region via northern Scandinavia, as well as another heat wave will be driven from the American West towards Alaska.

Heat waves affecting parts of the Arctic|
WASM Regional Center is monitoring unusual atmospheric circulation through the surge of two heat waves striking the Arctic region, the first from African deserts towards northern Scandinavia and the far northeast of Greenland, and the second driven from the hot American West towards Alaska and western Canada, which is considered the most intense.

The recurrence of these heat waves is a dangerous indicator of intensifying climate change, with expectations of rapid ice melting over the coming period in Arctic regions, which threatens the natural circulation of water currents in the Atlantic Ocean, which maintains an important thermal balance in the atmosphere.

The intensification of this type of heat wave is another dangerous indicator of the beginning of weakening of the polar jet stream, which reflects extremely severe weather conditions expected in many regions around the world.

Impact on the Arctic|
The Arctic being affected by heat waves is considered a dangerous indicator of the natural circulation of the atmosphere, and a negative reflection in the rate of ice melting in the Arctic region, which threatens the nature of water circulation in the Atlantic Ocean region over the coming years.

This also reflects in the weakening of the polar jet stream in the near future, which may become clearer during the upcoming season. Weakening of the polar jet stream leads to severe atmospheric circulation and an increase in the number of storms in many regions.

Weakening of water circulation in the Atlantic Ocean region threatens in the future with a "collapse of the jet stream over the Atlantic Ocean region" and with a rapid and sudden expansion of the polar circle in the European continent and North America region, and with a significant and sudden drop in global temperatures and negatively affecting the ecosystem and agricultural production around various regions of the world. WASM Regional Center will issue the extent of danger of climate changes that are sweeping the world, which are expected to increase at a rapid pace.

Results of multiple probability models from the European model indicate the surge of warm air masses from Europe and North America towards the Arctic region due to unusual atmospheric circulation.

Impact on the Arab Region|
Dry and hot periods are expected to increase significantly in the Maghreb region and western Mediterranean, offset by the opposite in areas east of the Mediterranean and the Levant and Arabian Peninsula.

Significantly increasing rainfall rates in Jordan, Palestine, southern Syria, Lebanon, and western Turkey, and a wide range of northern and western Arabian Peninsula and the Arabian Gulf region and southern Iraq, offset by the opposite in the Maghreb region.

Wide areas of the Middle East, particularly southeast of the Mediterranean, Jordan, Palestine, and western and northern Arabian Peninsula, have recorded a significant increase in rainfall rates exceeding between 40-60%, and for the first time since the beginning of modern climate records. With expectations of accelerating these climate changes over the coming period, these different weather phenomena will be more evident in the region with significant changes expected in the western Mediterranean region at a later time.
