WASM Regional Center Issues Red Alert Level for Severe Weather Conditions Starting Monday Evening

WASM - WASM Regional Center Issues Red Alert Level This is the highest alert level for severe weather conditions affecting all regions of the Kingdom starting from Monday evening until Thursday, due to the Kingdom being affected by a low-pressure system positioned over Cyprus and accompanied by a strong and highly effective cold air front that will result in severe thunderstorms, a significant temperature drop, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.

In detail, the low-pressure system, which will acquire some "Khamsin" characteristics, will be positioned north of Egypt and south of Palestine on Sunday, pushing very warm southerly winds coinciding with moderate to high clouds and rainfall showers in some areas. Wind activity is expected in some periods, raising light dust in various areas.

The low-pressure system will deepen over southern Palestine and the Negev Desert and gradually push toward the island of Cyprus on Monday. This will cause a warm, highly humid air mass from the "Red Sea" region to advance directly toward the Kingdom. With the influence of the cold air front, this will cause severe thunderstorms beginning from the south of the country, then extending toward the central and northern regions of the Kingdom as the weather condition intensifies, causing widespread floods and torrential rain with very heavy rainfall in some areas coinciding with strong winds and storm gusts.

The weather condition will affect all regions, including the Aqaba, Petra, Shoubak, and Karak areas. It will also extend strongly toward the capital Amman, the Dead Sea region, and northern and northeastern areas of the Kingdom, as well as the Azraq region during Monday evening until Tuesday daytime.

It is expected that as the low-pressure system deepens, it will push a cold and rare air mass compared to this time of year toward the Kingdom on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in very heavy rainfall in wide areas, a significant temperature drop, and "winter and rare weather conditions compared to this time of year."

WASM recommends continuous monitoring of warnings from the Jordan Meteorology Department and following the instructions of the Civil Defense and Public Security, staying completely away from low-lying areas and wadis, and being alert to water accumulations and sudden, torrential floods in some areas.
