WASM Regional Center | Monitoring "Severe" Weather Conditions at the End of This Week and Beginning of Next Week

WASM – The WASM Regional Center is monitoring a strong and severe rainy weather condition affecting all regions of the kingdom, beginning at the end of the week, accompanied by very large amounts of rainfall over several days, resulting from a low-pressure system accompanied by a humid air mass.

In detail, heavy rainfall will continue today, Monday, over wide areas of the kingdom, coinciding with unseasonably cold weather. Large quantities fell during the past two days in the northern and central regions of the kingdom, which has caused many areas to reach their complete seasonal rainfall averages.

Weather will remain cold on Tuesday with scattered rain showers, as the low-pressure system moves away from the kingdom while the effects of humid westerly winds and accompanying rain clouds remain in the northern and central regions and the western part of the country.

Temperatures will rise on Wednesday and Thursday, with weather being partly cloudy and generally cold in mountainous areas and moderate in low-lying areas, with light and scattered rain showers falling in various regions of the kingdom.

A strong and severe condition begins at the end of the week and continues into the beginning of next week.
The WASM Regional Center is monitoring a low-pressure system advancing from northern Libya and the southern Mediterranean Sea, accompanied by a humid air mass, which is expected to cause a strong weather condition over the kingdom and neighboring countries, resulting in very large amounts of rainfall over wide areas of the kingdom.

The reason for the succession of rainy and strong weather conditions over the kingdom is due to a strong and persistent high-pressure system positioned over North Africa and southern Europe, which causes polar air masses to advance toward the kingdom, resulting in low-pressure systems and strong rainy conditions.

The WASM Regional Center predicted a strong return of winter through the use of its high-precision climate model. The center provided important recommendations to the agricultural sector to mitigate losses from weather fluctuations and to benefit from large quantities of rainfall. WASM advises caution and vigilance against rumors circulated through media outlets, especially those discussing drought and lack of rainfall and the end of the rainy season. It is expected that this rainy season will continue until the end of spring at least, and in an unusual manner compared to previous years.

Rumors about the end of the rainy season, rising temperatures, and the beginning of spring have spread. These are the result of lack of experience and poor understanding of weather conditions in the kingdom. Many media outlets also misrepresent climate changes in the kingdom. These changes have in fact caused a significant increase in rainfall rates during recent years in the kingdom and Middle Eastern countries, not a decrease as is rumored. The WASM Regional Center is working to raise awareness and knowledge about climate changes and ways to adapt to them in the coming years.
