WASM Regional Center | Strong Heat Waves Sweep Europe While Jordan Experiences Moderate Weather

WASM- The WASM Regional Center is monitoring an "unusual" summer weather phenomenon during the coming week, which will result in mild, spring-like conditions in the eastern Mediterranean, Jordan, and Palestine during the coming week, producing significant temperature decreases below seasonal averages and within "unusually spring-like" levels, with forecasts of slightly cool, unseasonable nights in the mountains.

This is due to "strong" and consecutive heat waves that will strike the European continent starting next week, resulting in significant increases in temperature levels across Spain, France, Germany, southeastern Britain, and other regions of central and southern Europe, noting that these heat waves are expected to persist for an extended period in those areas.

The WASM Regional Center previously warned about the expected heat waves affecting Europe in an earlier report, which will be reflected in more moderate conditions in the eastern Mediterranean region and the Levant. This is considered a rare occurrence compared to this time of the hot summer season, as hot air masses typically concentrate near the Mediterranean region with more moderate conditions in the European continent, and this may reflect a more extreme circulation pattern of the atmosphere.

Red color indicates an intense heat wave during the coming week over the European continent, notice the blue color over the eastern Mediterranean and the Levant.

Temporary temperature increase at the end of the week|
Due to expectations of a rainy and rare low-pressure system forming over Turkey, northwestern Syria, and Lebanon during the coming week, this will lead to a temporary temperature increase on Friday and Saturday as a result of the kingdom being affected by the leading edge of the moderate air mass, and temperatures are expected to exceed 32-34 degrees Celsius during the day on Friday and Saturday in the capital and mountains, but will remain mild during the night and early morning.

Significant temperature decrease next week|
The effect of the mild, spring-like conditions is expected to begin gradually starting Sunday evening and progressively with stronger impact during mid-next week, leading to temperatures in the twenties with spring-like levels during the day accompanied by low cloud coverage and slightly cool conditions during the night and morning in the mountains and capital.

Moderate air masses will continue affecting the region until the first half of July|
As a result of the continuation of strong and consecutive heat waves over Europe, moderate air masses are expected to continue affecting the eastern Mediterranean, the Levant, and Jordan until the first half of July at least, and this will lead to abnormal weather conditions, especially in the European continent.

The WASM Regional Center will continue monitoring weather conditions during the coming period and the strong heat waves affecting Europe, which are considered a dangerous indicator of sharp changes in atmospheric circulation patterns that have become increasingly negative for Europe in terms of the frequency of droughts, heat waves, and local floods, and more positive impacts on the Mediterranean, the Levant, and Jordan in terms of increased rainfall rates in recent years and the decrease in the intensity of heat waves since the summer of 2021.
