WASM Regional Center | Winter storm to affect the Kingdom starting Monday night and intensifying at the beginning of February

WASM - The WASM Regional Center continues to monitor the Kingdom being affected by a "strong and unusual" winter storm that will impact the Kingdom starting Monday night and continue for many days accompanied by "massive amounts of rain," low temperatures, strong winds, and subsequently accumulating snow on many mountainous regions starting from later on Saturday and Sunday next week.

In detail, scattered thunderstorms will occur in various regions of the Kingdom during Monday daytime, which will be sporadic, before the beginning of the winter storm's impact. Later, during the night of Monday/Tuesday, the winter storm begins accompanied by large amounts of continuous and heavy rain and strong winds.

The weather on Tuesday and Wednesday will be stormy, cold and rainy with heavy precipitation, with snow falling on the peaks of high mountains, especially the southern regions of the Kingdom, coinciding with hail, thunder and lightning, with the possibility of flash floods forming in low-lying areas and valleys, and wind gust speeds reaching 100 km/hour.

Snow will fall on high mountains during the night of Wednesday/Thursday and Thursday morning, which exceed 1100 meters above sea level, specifically the northern and southern highlands of the Kingdom and sometimes extending to the peaks of the capital, without significant accumulation in the middle, with some slight accumulations in the north and south of the Kingdom.

Freezing and frost are expected to occur during the night of Thursday/Friday and Friday morning with decreasing precipitation and continuation of extremely cold conditions, before the winter storm is expected to reach its peak starting from Saturday and Sunday next week with increased chances of snow falling on many mountainous regions.

WASM will continue to issue details about the winter storm expected to last for many days accompanied by low temperatures, strong winds, and unusual amounts of precipitation across all regions of the Kingdom, which are expected to account for more than half of the entire rainy season in many areas.

Wind gust speeds approaching 100 km/hour
Continuous temperature drop to approach zero Celsius in high mountains during the night of Thursday/Friday
