Weather Alert: Sharp and Brief Heat Wave Starting Saturday with Unseasonable Weather Disturbances

WASM - The Kingdom is being affected by the "first heat wave of this summer," which is expected to cause temperatures to rise to around 40 degrees Celsius in many areas of the Kingdom, including the capital Amman. The wave is expected to begin on Saturday and continue until Monday, lasting 72 hours, and is expected to recede in the middle of next week with an anticipated significant drop in temperatures.

The heat wave will coincide with unseasonable weather disturbances in different areas of the Kingdom, which result in thunderclouds, rainfall showers, and active dust and sand-stirring winds. The sky is expected to be partially cloudy during many periods from Saturday evening through Monday daytime, coinciding with hot weather.

Temperatures will exceed their seasonal averages by approximately 8-9 degrees Celsius for the first time this summer. Despite the hot conditions that occurred on some days in July, they did not reach the impact level of a heat wave. Heat waves cause a large and sharp rise in temperatures, which directly affect many sectors and pose a danger to public health, especially children and the elderly.

Peak with the first day of the heat wave..
The peak of the heat wave will be on its first day, which is Saturday, when temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in the capital, touching 42 degrees Celsius in the eastern and low-lying parts of the capital. In the western areas and high-altitude regions, temperatures will be around 36-38 degrees Celsius, approaching 44 degrees Celsius in desert areas, low-lying regions, and the Jordan Valley.

The impact of the heat wave is expected to decline slightly on Sunday and noticeably on Monday, until it recedes on Tuesday, with temperatures dropping significantly and noticeably, and a sharp rise in humidity levels.

High humidity in the evening periods and cloudy skies..
This will cause an increase in heat stress, as elevated humidity causes an increasingly greater feeling of hot weather compared to recorded temperatures, and dense clouds cause elevated evening temperatures, where in many areas they may not drop below 27 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours and remain in the thirties throughout most nighttime hours.

Receding in the middle of the week..
The heat wave is expected to recede in the middle of next week, with a large and sharp drop in temperatures anticipated. The weather will become moderate by the middle and end of next week, with a significant temperature difference of more than 12-14 degrees Celsius.

Peak of unseasonable weather disturbances on Sunday evening..
The heat wave will coincide with a condition of weather instability that will peak on Sunday evening, when cumulus thunderclouds will increase and rainfall showers will fall in different areas, especially the southwestern regions of the Kingdom. Due to the expected occurrence of lightning from thunderclouds, there is an anticipated increase in the chance of grass and tree fires in some areas, which requires attention, especially with high temperatures.

WASM issues an orange alert level for the heat wave, which will be activated from Saturday morning through Monday evening. This alert level will quickly drop to green with the anticipated significant temperature drop in the middle of next week.

It is recommended to increase fluid intake, avoid direct sunlight, and operate air conditioning units at a temperature no lower than 24 degrees Celsius to reduce pressure on the electrical sector and decrease electricity consumption.
