Weather Alert: Strong Polar Wave Accompanied by Heavy Snow and Torrential Rains Begins Tuesday and Continues for Several Days

WASM- WASM is monitoring a "strong" polar wave accompanied by heavy snow, heavy rain, and strong winds that will begin on Tuesday with indications that it will develop into a long-duration snowstorm that will continue for several days and affect wide areas of Jordan.

Temperatures will drop tomorrow, Saturday, then rise on Sunday and Monday in the lead-up to the strong polar wave, and starting from Tuesday the country will be affected by the strong polar wave which is expected to develop into a long-duration snowstorm.

The polar wave is expected to last for an extended period over several days and will consist of multiple waves, weakening at times and intensifying at others. WASM expects this wave to continue until the end of February.

Heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday evening and heavy snow on high mountains above 900 meters during the night, including the capital Amman. As the polar air deepens on Wednesday, the snow level is expected to drop to 500-600 meters above sea level, affecting many major cities in Jordan. Strong winds are expected to accompany this polar wave, with speeds reaching 70 km/hour and gusts exceeding 100 km/hour. These indicators are subject to change.

In scientific detail, a strong and deep atmospheric high is pushing an extremely cold polar air mass from 80 degrees north latitude near northern Siberia across eastern Europe and Turkish lands to the eastern Mediterranean. Due to the mass of the air and its extreme cold, a storm is expected to form in the eastern Mediterranean in the form of a deep atmospheric low with a center depth of approximately 990 millibars, accompanied by polar air. Because of the magnitude of the polar mass and the continued positioning of the strong atmospheric high over Europe, this mass is expected to remain positioned for a long period over Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean, indicating the continued impact of the snowstorm for many days.
