WSM Regional Center | Heavy rains return mid-next week and monitoring of polar wave approaching the Kingdom

Heavy rainfall is expected to resume mid-next week as a polar air mass originates from Eastern Europe and approaches the Kingdom, driven from the east of the European continent. This comes after the Kingdom recorded a widespread and heavy wave of rainfall over the past few days, which achieved more than 50% of December's seasonal rainfall average in many regions and maintained strong performance for the current rainy season.

Heavy rainfall mid-next week..
A polar air mass is approaching the Kingdom from Eastern Europe, positioned over Turkey and the Anatolia region, causing the formation of a low-pressure system over southern Cyprus, which will trigger a renewal of heavy rainfall over a wide area of Jordan, including desert regions, mid-next week, coinciding with noticeably cold conditions and temperatures around 5 degrees Celsius in the capital and mountains.

A strong storm is pushing toward Eastern Europe, Turkey, and the Eastern Mediterranean region..
WASM Regional Center is monitoring a strong polar wave expected to push from the far north of the Atlantic Ocean toward the Eastern Mediterranean region, Turkey, and surrounding areas directly, later during the end of next week. Its effects are expected to reach the Kingdom and the Levant region significantly, coinciding with extremely cold conditions. Details will be issued progressively as the time period approaches and with the nature of these weather conditions.

This strong storm results from a major oscillation that occurred in atmospheric pressure over the North Pole and the North Atlantic. WASM Regional Center has monitored a very strong and rare high-pressure system that will reach values potentially exceeding 1050 hectopascals in the central and eastern Atlantic Ocean. This acts to drive very cold and humid polar air masses from the North Pole and the polar North Atlantic region toward Eastern Europe rapidly and directly, then toward the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey, and Eastern Greece.

This storm is expected to coincide with extreme conditions in parts of Southeast Europe, Turkey, reaching toward the Eastern Mediterranean. Further details will be issued regarding the nature of the expected weather conditions' impact on Jordan.

Strong rainy season performance in most regions..
Rainy conditions continue successively over the Kingdom since the beginning of autumn, which recorded strong performance, as many regions recorded more than 30-40% of the rainy season, and some regions exceeded half of the rainy season. We have not yet been affected by the Merbaaniyya or Khamisinya periods of winter, which are characterized by recording more than 75-80% of the rainy season typically, according to the climate archive.
